Carlisle Flight Training - About Us

Welcome to Carlisle Flight Training. We are a small, familly run, friendly flying school and aero club. We welcome everybody who drops in.

Alan Rayson

Helen Rayson

Alan

Alan Rayson (Mum) is our Chief Flying Instructor, and has been flying for over 20 years and with over 6,000 instructional flying hours has quietly sat through many peoples early attempts at flying. Alan has instructed in a variety of aircraft and taught a wide range of people from 80 year olds to a spell teaching RAF Cadets. Alan is also our Flight and Ground Examiner for PPLs and IMC ratings.

  Helen Rayson

Helen started at Carlisle airport in 1997 working in the bar, then moving into the tower and then finally she moved on to become one of the only female civilian refuellers in the UK. Unfortunately the glamour of overalls, steel toe caps and freezing winters wasn't strong enough to keep her outside and she is now a slave to the heating and sunbathing running CFT.

Alan Parker

Sam Parker

Alan Parker

Alan started flying at a very young age soloing a glider at the age of 16 and has flown in the UAS (University Air Squadron) in Bulldogs. Alan presently instructs for the PPL and Night Qualification. He never turns down a good pie!

  Sam Parker

Sam (Sparky) is our resident instructor and can often be seen with a cup of tea in hand. Sam is an experienced aerobatics pilot and has flown Extra 300's, Pitts Specials, Bulldogs and the F4 Phantom. He is instrument rated in single and multi-engined aircraft and instructs for the PPL.

Tom Vaughan

Keith Lister

Tom Vaughan

Tom has been instructing for us for just over 3 years and now occasionally pops in to help out with PPL and Night instruction. He has gained a job flying corporate Pilatus PC12s around the UK and Europe.

  Keith Lister

Mad professor and multi-engine pilot extrordinaire. Keith has over 22,000 hours in his logbooks and joins us occasionally to examine for PPL & IMC tests. Some of the types on his licence include the Shorts 360, ATR 42, ATR 72 as well as all Piper twins.

Sam Capie

Adam McDonald

Sam

Sam started off as the CFT aircraft cleaner and through this gained his PPL at 17. Over the years he developed a taste for the warmth that an office job provides and now works full time looking after the day to day affairs of CFT. On his days off he is usually to be found borrowing a club aircraft for a trip away.

  Adam

Adam began doing the occasional bit of aircraft washing but was soon tempted away into the office which he now does most weekends. Having achieved his PPL by 17 he's got his sights set on a career in aviation.

Farrokh

Lloyd the Kitten

Farrokh

Farrokh the reindeer accompanies us on many of our adventurous trips to various airfields around the UK & Europe. He is a dab hand at map folding and an impressive lookout in the aeroplane! At the moment he's helping Tom out touring Europe and has so far visited Malaga & Palma!

  Lloyd

Lloyd came to us from one of our members as a tiny feral farm cat. He quickly settled into not having to go out and get his own dinner (although he does still do this from time to time!) He is often found wandering around the hangars and has been known to frequent the airport fire section as well as the air ambulance helipad!
